I’ve tried other NHC soaps (Lemongrass, Moroccan Grapefruit Red clay)and I love citrus so I expected to like one of the two the most. Still, this Brazilian Expresso Coffee Butter-Vanilla is my favorite out of all of them! It has a strong, aromatic coffee-vanilla scent. The bar is big so I cut it in half and the inside is cream-colored (guessing that’s the vanilla). It feels very luxurious, buttery and smooth. Since it’s natural it takes some work into the washcloth or loofa to get a lather. It also comes off brown but leaves no residue on the skin or in the tub. I felt it was kind of pricey(mainly due to the shipping cost) but it’s spa quality for way less than what you would pay at the spa. The only thing is that I wish it had some nut shells or some type of exfoliant texture to it but I use a Japanese washcloth with it anyway. This will leave you soft, clean and the coffee naturally neutralizes body bacteria and odors. Enjoy!

What soap did they use in a Christmas story?

Santa Lucia Borba (Elise’s Grandmother) was a farmer’s daughter from Borba, born in Italy 1904. She moved to Brazil in 1917 from her home in Tuscany, Italy where she had to learn to (make soap from scratch) and essential oils from the plants out of necessity.  After years of making soap for her 13 children, her family finally convinced her to open a small soap shop in Sao Paulo Brazil where she made soaps with her family for 25 years, those soap recipes found their way to North Carolina, when I went back to Brazil for Christmas and asked grandmother for food recipes to bring back to North Carolina. While looking through boxes of recipes we came across all her old soap and essential oil recipes.

Skin types include normal, oily, dry, and sensitive. Some people also have a combination of skin types in different areas of their skin. Your skin type can change over time…For example, younger people are likelier than older people to have a normal skin type. Skin types vary depending upon factors such as Water content, which affects your skin’s comfort and elasticity. Oil (lipid) content affects your skin’s softness and sensitivity level.

What’s Your Skin Type?

A Natural “Artisan Handmade Soap” Bar can be a practical addition to any good skin care regimen. But many people have been using the same type of soap for years without ever thinking about why.
Scientifically, we know that the skin is constantly changing which is why something as simple as changing your soap can make a big difference in results from a skin-care routine. In fact, there is a good natural handcrafted bar for every skin type. To make the process a little less overwhelming, I have put together a few favorites, depending on the skin type.

Normal Skin Type-Normal skin is not too dry and not too oily. It has:

A radiant complexion, No severe sensitivity Barely visible pores.Combination Skin Type

A combination skin type can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin). Many people have combination skin, which may benefit from slightly different types of skin care in different areas.

Combination skin can produce:

Overly dilated pores
Blackheads
Shiny skin

Dry Skin Type

Dry Skin Type
Dry skin can produce:

Almost invisible pores
Dull, rough complexion
Red patches
Less elasticity
More visible lines
When exposed to drying factors, skin can crack, peel, or become itchy, irritated, or inflamed. If your skin is very dry, it can become rough and scaly, especially on the backs of your hands, arms, and legs.

Dry skin may be caused or made worse by:

Genetic factors
Aging or hormonal changes
Weather such as wind, sun, or cold
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from tanning beds
Indoor heating
Long, hot baths and showers
Ingredients in soaps, cosmetics, or cleansers

Oily Skin Type

Oily skin can produce:

• Enlarged pores
• Dull or shiny, thick complexion
• Blackheads, pimples, or other blemishes

Oiliness can change depending upon the time of year or the weather. Oily skin can be caused or made worse by:

• Puberty or other hormonal imbalances
• Stress
• Exposure to heat or too much humidity

Sensitive Skin Type

f your skin is sensitive, try to find out what your triggers are so you can avoid them. You may have sensitive skin for a variety of reasons, but often it’s in response to particular skin care products.
